Faith Baptist Senior Moment...Mrs. Jenny

I haven't done one of these in a while. If you're fairly new to reading my blog, I like to do a post every now and then on some of the seniors at our church. You can find a few in my sidebar if you'd like to read more.
This one is about Mrs. Jenny. She's so fun to talk to and I love her so much. I asked her to tell me a funny story about herself and the other day at a birthday party for another senior in our church, she came up to me and said she had been thinking about me the other day and came up with a story to tell me. This is a story of sibling rivalry.
When she was a little girl her mother told her to go fetch the mail. When her brother asked where she was going she told him she was going to get the mail. He said, "No, I'm going to get the mail." She argued, "No, mama told me to get it." This went on for several minutes until she finally had him cornered.
"You cornered him" I asked. She said, "Yeah, and that ain't all. I had a broom stick in my hand and hit him right square on the head." Now at this point, Mrs. Jenny was laughing and bent over with her hand on my arm. I asked her what he did when she hit him and she said, "He fell straight to the floor and started crawling around. But you know what? I got the mail!"
I'm telling you, if you never sit and listen to a senior, you need to. They'll tell you some funny stories!

Today I went to visit Mrs. Church at her rehabilitation center. I highlited Mrs. Church in the last Faith Baptist Senior Moment.

She had her knee replacement last week and has had a very difficult time and in need of a lot of prayer.

When she transferred from the hospital to the rehabilitation center, they were putting her in a wheelchair that didn't have foot rests and her foot (on the leg she had her knee surgery) was dragging under the wheelchair. Her knee was in pain and she couldn't pull her leg up to hold her foot off the floor. It ended up damaging something in the back of her leg and now she can't put her heel down, which has slowed her physical therapy a great deal. This is not good. So please say a prayer for Mrs. Church. She really needs it.

While I was visiting with her, there were two other ladies there from our church and also her daughter. So five of us were in her little room and we laughed and talked and prayed. On my way out, three more ladies from church were coming in to see Mrs. Church. WOW, that's seven people from church today.

I headed to Wal Mart to do a little grocery shopping and guess what....there was my Pastor. He was picking up a few things. We said our hellos on the cookie isle and off he went. Then one of our Senior Saints happened to be coming down that same isle. That's nine people from our church today!

After I checked out I ran into my Sister-in-law who works in the bank there inside of Wal Mart. After saying hello to her and getting a warm hug, I ran into Michelle and her two younger children. They are also from my church. That's twelve people.

I made over their new little one and headed out the store when I ran into Missy....yes, the thirteenth person from our church.

Fortunately I didn't have too many errands today so I was free to chat a little with each person. But have you ever been really busy and it seemed like you ran into everyone you knew? Sometimes when I'm having one of those busy days, I feel like disguising myself before entering the local Wal Mart, seeing that's where I'm going to run into everyone I know. And I've learned never to ask how someone is doing when I'm running late for an appointment. As sure as the world, they will tell me. Every single detail. Clothing racks are great hiding places. Just dive right in there and pretend you're in the closet that will take you to Narnia.

Don't I sound terrible? ok, to be honest, I have never hidden in a clothing rack, but I've often thought about jumping into one and I KNOW it would be a great hiding place.

In all honesty, it's always good to see my friends and family. I love every one of yuns!

Faith Baptist Senior Moment....Mrs. Church

Mrs. Church must be one of the sweetest ladies you'll ever meet. A widow, she has dedicated her life to the Lord ministering to others in any way she can. Through an encouraging word or a time of prayer, cards, etc. She can be called on in any situation and always has a sweet spirit to lend a helping hand. We love Mrs. Church at Faith Baptist Chruch!
We always give praises before our prayer requests in the ladies prayer room and yesterday Mrs. Church had one to share.
She has a very bad knee, often dealing with great pain and most likely will need a knee replacement in the near future. She looked out her window the other day and noticed that a trash bag had flown out of the trash can into her yard. She said, "Lord, please don't let that bag go any further, I just don't feel like walking across the yard to get it." She went to put her shoes on and when she came back and opened the door, the bag had flown up on her porch and landed right in front of the door. Now, isn't that God showing how He cares about the "little" things? What a great story. And what a great lady!

Faith Baptist Senior Moment....Mrs. Ola Harmon

This is Mrs. Ola Harmon. One of the Senior Saints at our church. She is also the Grandmother of Justin's best friend, Jeremy. She is very faithful to church even when her health would keep others home sometime. I asked Mrs. Ola to tell me a funny story and she did indeed have one.
She's been having trouble with one of her feet hurting and went to the doctor. He was going over different medications that he could give her but she was allergic to a lot of them so he finally told her that he could tape a pad to the bottom of her foot, that might make her foot feel better.
"Are you allergic to tape," he asked.
Being hard of hearing, Mrs. Ola didn't quite understand what he was talking about so she said, "I don't know....What does it look like?"
Well, she's giggled about that ever since. She told me I might want to ham her story up, but I don't think it needs it.
Mrs. Ola has many cute stories to tell. She's a very sweet lady and always has a good hug to share.
Love you, Mrs Ola!

A Faith Baptist "Senior Moment"

I don't have a special thing to write about today, but I do have a special SOMEbody to write about. I don't know if you ever talk to the Senior Saints in your church, but you would be surprised at what you can learn from them if you'll just take the time to listen to them. Most of the time they'll begin by telling you about their ailments and their eyes will sink just a little. But if you pepper them with quesitons about the times when they were young, their eyes grow bright and before you know it, they're spilling out their entire childhood.

One particular lady in our church is Mrs. Massmore. I hope I spelled her name correctly. She's a sweet little lady and every time you see her, she'll be wearing a hat. Does it match her outfit? Usually not. Does she care? Nope! She just likes her hats. I remember having a bag of hats that, I believe, my mother had given to me, and I thought to myself, I bet Mrs. Massmore would like these. So I took them to her the following Sunday and you would have thought she was given a gold mine.

Her health had begun to decline so she moved to a residential place where she can only come to church one service a week. She chose Wednesday nights. This Wednesday, I had my camera to take some pictures of our homeschoolers, and I decided I would take a couple of Mrs. Massmore before I got around to the homeschoolers. BTW, I never did get around to the homeschoolers because my batteries went dead....but not before I got a picture of Mrs. Massmore!!

She was telling me that her father was one of the last circuit riding preachers and how fun it would be traveling as a family in their open buggy to near by or far away camp meetings. And how her daddy would be preaching and if any one of the eight children were talking or making faces or doing anything they shouldn't be doing during a service, he would come from around the pulpit and scold them openly. "And if that happened..." she said, "...you could expect a good whipping later."

Then she told me about her hats. Apparently, she grew up wearing hats everytime she was outside. She said her mother would say, "Eber, (pronounced with the short vowel "e") get your hat on, girl. You'll catch your germ." So she doesn't wear hats just because she likes them. She wears them because her mother told her to. She's still obeying her mother long after she's been gone. What a sweet lady and what a great story teller.

And just so you'll know, Mrs. Massmore assured me that "Eber" is a Bible name, found in the book of Genesis.
