The Anchor Holds

The theme for this year's banquet was The Anchor Holds. Mrs. Liz wanted to do an underwater
theme. Pam and I met Thursday before last to start working. It took us several hours to hang hooks and fishing line for the ceiling decorations.

Brother Medlin and Brother Harmon fashioned this ship out of cardboard and placed it around a bar we have in the fellowship building.

Pam and I started papering the ship with brown bulletin board paper.

Justin and Clayton were draping "water" across the ceiling. OK, well, here Justin is drinking a soda and Clayton is working. lol

Kendra was helping them with the giant wave.

Mrs. April made a cave for some fish.

And Mrs. Janet had her hand in pretty much everything.

This was the coral in progress. Pam and Amy covered the cardboard coral with plaster of paris and when it dried, Mrs. Liz painted them. I know she had help, but I'm not sure who helped her. Fortunately it turned out pretty, but I would NOT recommend this project.

This was the dummy we would dress in scuba gear and hang from the ceiling.

There was a lot of hard work and hours that went into the banquet and it turned out beautiful. Mrs. Liz had GREAT IDEAS!
This is Bruce and me under the entrance.

Remember the heart shaped ice sculptures we used for the Valentine's banquet? Well, we did fish shaped ice for this one. We had very colorful fish. Yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink. They were really pretty.

Bruce with Justin and Hannah in front of the cave. You can't see, but we had an orange light in the cave with fish swimming around inside.

This is me with Justin and Hannah by the finished ship. Mrs. Liz, April, Pam, and me worked on the ship and I believe Mrs. Dana did too. I didn't get to work with Dana, but I thought I heard them say something about her working on it. See all the bubbles? There were bubble machines blowing those. The younger children LOVED that!

Here is our dummy diver.

John O', daddy, and mom

We had some fish and sea horses blown up with helium and weighted down to look as though they were floating in the water.

We also had schools of dolphins hanging from the ceiling.

Everyone seemed to be having a good time.

This was the bottom of a fishing boat hanging in the water from the ceiling.

Daddy was asked to pray over the food. We had a fish and chicken dinner catered in from Colonial Fish Camp. We had our choice of fish or chicken with fries or baked potato. We also had several desserts to choose from. The meal was delicious and the college and career class served us. That was nice of them.

After we ate, John O' gave a devotional. He did a fantastic job. He graduated from high school last year and is attending Golden State Baptist College in California.

After the devotional, Brother RJ and Mrs. Liz did a DVD presentation with pictures we had taken of the kids throughout this last year. Mrs. Liz's daddy was so kind to do that for us and each family received a copy.

Next was the awards presentations. We started out recognizing the graduates.

These were our top ten, in no particular order, but from left to right:
Evan, Katherine, Justin, Mark, Cassie, Spencer, Jeremy, Justin, Jamie, and Gary.

LeAnna won the Helping Hand award.

Ethan won the Good Humor award. Ethan has a crazy sense of humor. He can make anyone laugh at any time. He's one of the seniors and we're going to miss him terribly!

Monica was diagnosed and has been battling MS for over a year now. She won the Over comer Award.

I forget all the names of the awards, so I'll just tell you who won them. LOL
Evan

Nathaniel

Justin won this award for memorizing the most verses this year.

And Gary won first place in points.

Cassie won high points for the girls.

Katherine

Mark...he's one of our seniors too and will be greatly missed next year.

Justin also won the Pastor's Award for outstanding leadership and organization.

Our Pastor, J Barry Goodman.

The Nu Delta Fishermen was Brother Chris and Mrs. Dana's team. We were the Pi Gamma Eagles. Since Bruce and I were in the picture with our team, I'll have to snag someone's picture of us later to show you because obviously I could not take our picture. By the way, Parker, what are YOU doing in THIS picture? Hmmm?

I have no idea what this pose was about, but I had to post the picture anyway. LOL

We had a wonderful time and again, I must say that Mrs. Liz had great ideas for her banquet this year. I've already heard her discussing plans for next year and it sounds like a load of fun.
