What Really Broke Down The Walls Of Jericho

Waits River village. Vermont, New England, USA

A Pastor, known for sitting in on the different Sunday school classes from time to time, visited a class of boys one Sunday morning to find out what they were learning during their Bible study. "Who broke down the walls of Jericho?" the Pastor asked.

"Not me, Sir," each boy replied.

"Is this typical of your class?" the Pastor asked the teacher.

"These are honest boys and I believe them," the teacher said. "I don't believe they would do a thing like that."

Frustrated and discouraged, the Pastor told his Associate Pastor who was also the Sunday school director about his visit to the class and the response of the boys and their teacher.

"Pastor, I have known that teacher and those boys for a long time," the associate said. "If they said they didn't do it, that's good enough for me."

Next, the Pastor brought the matter before the deacons. They discussed it for two hours, then reported: "Pastor, we see no need to get upset about a little thing like this. We suggest that we just pay for any damages involved, and charge it to the general church maintenance."
