North Carolina Mountain Music

Tuesday night we went to a local elementary school where several of the ladies in our church teach. One of those ladies, Mrs. Crystal, is a fourth grade teacher there. Her class, along with five other fourth grade classes had their North Carolina Mountain Music program.

This is Callie. You may recognize that smile from the post on the Patch Quiz Bowl. Doesn't she look sweet?

Bruce and Brother Wayne played along with the young men's blue grass group from our church. They opened up with I'll Fly Away and Cripple Creek. At the end of the program, they closed with I Saw the Light and Foggy Mountain Break Down. They did a great job.

This is the group that represented six of those fourth grade classes. They sang some folk songs, which included, Banjo Sam, I Bought Me a Cat, I Fed My Horse, She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain, and I've Been Working on the Railroad.

The young man below is the nephew of a man in our church. His name is Brad and he played the Dulcimer. He did an EXCELLENT job. Everyone was very impressed by him. He's in the third grade and has been playing for two years, taking lessons from Dr. Joe Collins, a national champion on the dulcimer. Brad placed 3rd in the Georgia State Mountain Dulcimer Competition last fall.

Some of the children who have been playing the dulcimer in music class were given the opportunity to play what they've learned this year.

It was fun to listen to the children sing and play their instruments.
Thank you, Mrs. Crystal, for inviting us to join in on the North Carolina Mountain Music fun.
