Be A Light For The Lord ~~Donna Janney

We ate our meals in the gym. All along the walls of the gym were the different tables or booths set up for shopping. WOO HOOO!! There was also a purse store and consignment shop. Everyone LOVED the consignment shop!

Me...I really dislike this picture, but I think it's the only one I got on my camera.

There were 12 bathrooms decorated by ladies in thier church. Each bathroom had a basket for you to drop your name and church's name, entering you in a drawing for a giveaway. I didn't take pics of all the bathrooms, but here are a few of my favorites.

Amy and Pam found a fireman in the hall. No, Amy....he's not real!

This one was my favorite. This bathroom was my favorite last year. Last year it was a massage room. You can click the label at the end of the post to see last years. Anyway, I just loved the little fireman. So cute!

This one had a garden theme. It made me want to come home and plant something....but I didn't.

The theme of the conference was Rescue 911 Emergency. First aid for the heartbroken, treatment for the ailing spirit, help for the distressed mind, care for the emotionally drained, and more! Here are our ladies, who eventually made our way to the balcony because we could see so much better there. Plus, Kellie had a place to nap during the seminar. LOL JUST KIDDING, KELLIE!!!!!!!! (((HUGS)))

The theme verse was Psalm 91:1 "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."

Our first speaker for the night was Sis Donna Janney. She is one of the three daughters of Dr. Curtis and Geri Hutson and everytime I have heard her speak, it has been a joy, a blessing, and an eye opener into my personal life with Christ. She spoke on us being a light for the Lord. Sorry, this is the best pic I could get of her. :'(

Matthew 5:14-16 "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven."

When people see us, we should be knows as the a Christian. We need to be a light for the Lord.
1. Candles give light. They're not just pretty to look at, they give off light. We don't want to shine for the beauty outside, but for the beauty in us, which is the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Candles have to be lit. John 1:4-5 "In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
Jesus Christ is our power source. The closer we are to Christ, the brighter our light will be.

3. Light reveals the dust. Don't point out the dust in other's lives. Worry about your own dust. We should live our lives so that our light (CHRIST) is a convicting power for others. That's not to say we're not supposed to preach and teach against sin, but we're not supposed to point out other's sins in their lives all the while ignoring our own.
4. Candles are molded and fashioned by the maker. Christ is our Maker. We need to resemble our Heavenly Father. Be an imitation of Christ.
5. Candles set a mood. As Christians we can set a joyous atmosphere. Ephesians 5:2 "And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a scarifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour." Be a sweet lady, pleasing to the Lord.
6. A candle wick is in the center of the candle so that it shines longer and brighter. Christ is our wick. He should be the center of our hearts.
7. Candles need oxygen to burn. We need the Holy Spirit. Don't focus on just the (don'ts) of Christianity, but have a mixture of the dos too. We tend to focus on "Don't wear pants" "Don't cut your hair" "Don't go to movies" and yet we never focus on the "Do pass our tracts" "Do help your Pastor" "Do volunteer to work in your church" "Do be an encouragement to others." We need a mixture of the don'ts and the dos.
8. Candles shine more brightly on clean surfaces. We need to have integrity in our lives. When you do not trim the wick of a candle, it causes soot to build around the glass that it sits in. Just like a candle, our wicks need to be trimmed. Psalm 119: 83 "For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; yet do I not forget thy statutes." We become dirty if we don't keep oursleves groomed in Christ.
9. Matthew 6:23 "But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!" Don't let the light go out. Be a people of light. Our lights may flicker, but we mustn't let it go out, for it could help to save someone.
Our Christianity should never just sit and be pretty. Burn for Christ as a sweet smelling savor.
