Where Are My Eyes Looking?

This post was inspired by another blogger this morning. (Thanks, Susan) Her post was on how offended she was when she read a movie suggestion on another Christian's blog. To make a long story short, because I know you'll probably pop over there to read it anyway, a suggestion was given but the movie was rated very high on things that no Christian should be watching. Which got me to thinking...Where are my eyes looking?

In this modern age we live in, there are so many places the devil can reach us. Television, Internet, phones, etc. I heard a preacher say one time that if all you have is Internet, don't turn your nose up at me for having a television because there's more sin on your computer than on my TV. LOL Well, I have to agree with him there.

Lately, we've heard of several preachers who have fallen by the wayside because of Internet pornography and what their eyes have beheld there. There are those that struggle with this sin, that once lived dedicated lives to the Lord. Are they all preachers? No. Are they all men? No. There are even some women who find themselves locked in this sin as well. Pornography is not the only sin that comes from taking your eyes off the Lord. It can be anything that removes our eyes off of Christ and replaces Him in our lives.

My friend, Susan McCurry, is a hospice nurse. She was saying that cancer has no respect of persons. It doesn't matter if you're a man, woman, or child. It doesn't care what race or religion you are. It attacks anyone. As so with sin.

There are numerous scripture passages about our eyes and where they should be looking. Let me post just a few.

Psalm 25:15, "Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net."

Speaking to the disciples after the mission of the seventy, the Bible says in Luke 10:23, "And he [Jesus] turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see."

Jesus went to the temple just before beginning his preaching ministry and the Bible says, "And he closed the book and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him." Luke 4:20

Pslam 141:8, "But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute."

Luke 2:30, "For mine eyes have seen thy salvation."

Psalm 123:2, "Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us."

If we keep our eyes on looking toward the Lord, what sin will we have to worry about? If we allow our eyes to look toward the things of the flesh, what will it do to our vision toward God?Will He become a blur in our sight, until finally we can see His face no more? Where are my eyes looking? I challenge you to ask yourself that question. Are they looking at the world, lusting for the things of the world? Or are your eyes set on the Lord your Redeemer?
