A Glimpse of Homeschool
Deuteronomy 6:7 Homeschool had a quiet day yesterday, with the exception of music coming from Justin's room. Bruce is off for a few days and was busy in his workshop while the rest of us followed our regular routine of school and chores. It was a perfect opportunity for some candid school shots.
Harrison was busying himself with Phonics in this picture. He has a really difficult time with reading. Hannah and Justin seemed to pick it up so quickly, but Harrison struggles, bless his heart. I know it will just CLICK one of these days, but he's so self-conscience about it. We spend a LOT of time on phonics each school day. I have him doing Kindergarten phonics, followed by his first grade phonics, followed by drills and right now he's using the reader Tip Toes published by Abeka. We have really good days. But then there are other days where we just decide to put everything away. LOL I've seen great improvement in him since the beginning of the year, although he is still very shy to try and read to others. If any of you homeschoolers have experienced this with your child and have suggestions, please email them to me. We'll try it! Heather from Just Laugh had a good idea that we tried the other day. He loved it. I wrote words on sticky notes and he had to find the word in the house and stick the note to it. He loved it that he was able to put "brother" on Justin and "Tipsy" on the dog. Tipsy wasn't too thrilled, but Harrison thought it was hilarious. LOL
I found Hannah with all of her school books scattered about her while she read in her Medieval Times. Ahhh, the comforts of homeschool with a bed for your desk. Isn't that nice? I suppose some homeschoolers prefer to make their children sit at the table or a desk. And that's fine. It's their school. I admit that at one time I felt the same way. But since Hannah and Justin have gotten older, I tend to let them choose their place of learning. It certainly hasn't harmed them. Harrison still works at the table, but that's for my convenience. Every once in a while, especially when reading, we'll meander to the couch for comfort.
At the time these pictures were taken, I thought Justin had gone somewhere with his dad so no pics of him were taken. Little did I know he was in his room working away on Algebra. WHICH by the way, he is doing WONDERFUL in. Once my brother, my dear, dear sweet brother, helped us over those difficult humps, Justin just took off. Praise the LORD!
After schoolwork was completed and I had started supper, it was time to get ready for bluegrass practice. Justin has started playing the guitar in the bluegrass group, but last night he broke out his harmonicas and they sounded great. I'm really proud at the effort he puts into playing his instruments. Today he has been practicing his banjo so I did get a picture of that!
Well, that was my day yesterday. Today is pretty much the same. We'll be having supper with mom and dad tonight. I believe hotdogs are on the menu. At least I hope they are, cause I'm taking chili and slaw.
"And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."
