Bruce's Birthday Roast

No, not the roast you eat. Bruce and a friend of our's from church, Mike, share the same birth date, December 10. So Mike's wife, Susan, and I decided to roast them at a surprise birthday breakfast at Golden Corral. If you don't know what that is, it's when you get together in honor of someone and tell jokes about them or humiliating and funny stories about them. It was hilarious. Bruce and Mike were such good sports and there was a LOT of laughter and giggles shared.

Before the festivities started, Bruce and Mike thought it was just
a combined surprise breakfast. Oh how unsuspecting they were!

Susan meeting Bruce's brother and telling him that Bruce was
better looking. Only Bruce and Bryan could pass for twins. LOL

Mark and Bruce. Mark worked with Bruce at PPG and they
became great friends.

Then it was time for the fun to begin. No birthday party
is complete without a birthday hat. So since it WAS a roast,
Susan found Bruce and Mike some birthday tiaras that they had to wear
for the duration of the party.

Here is Bruce's reaction to me reading something I wrote about
what I go through on a day to day basis as his wife. It was so funny.
Check out that face. LOL

Mike pretty well kept this same expression through the whole
roast. I think he was in shock and stayed there.

Here is me saying that I love Bruce despite all his little
quirks.....cause he ain't never gonna change!

Then it was Susan's turn to roast Mike....

She picked on him about being a die hard Cowboy's fan and
told some really funny stories about it.

The Morrow children and the McCurry children got together
and sang a song to their dads.

My brother, John was the first to stand up and roast Bruce
after me. He told about the time Bruce knocked him to his
knees with a small log playing with my dad's dog. In memory
of that, John gave him a big stick. He also gave him a plain
white, round styrofoam ball....just because it reminded John
of Bruce. LOL And he gave him a large box of mashed
potatoes because Bruce loves them so much.

Brandon got up to roast Mike and hung a silver plated
tie to his shirt. He sang a Happy Birthday song to the tune of the
Russian Death March. LOL

Mom roasted Bruce telling about the time he laughed
and made fun of her when they were in Germany as he
lanced her infected toe nail before she had to get on the plane to
leave back for the states.

Then of course, Daddy never misses an opportunity to
pick on a poor soul. He told several one liners about Bruce
and Mike and their similarities.

Mark stood and told about the time the weather had snapped
cold and Bruce had brought out his coat from the closet for the
first time that year and after their twelve hour work shift he
pulled a pork chop from the pocket and said, "Hey! I forgot
that was in here! It's been in here almost a year, but it should
be OK." And then he ate it. Of course, it was a pork chop
he had brought from dinner the night before, but was being
funny with the guys.

Mark obviously still gets cracked up at that story. LOL

Susan's mom roasted Mike but then told a really sweet story
of how when Susan was pregnant she was craving a pizza so
he went to the restaurant and they were closing. But he begged
and begged for them to let him come in and make a pizza for her.
They obliged his request and didn't even charge him for the pizza.

Bruce's mom roasted him and I think the roast was
harder on her than it was for Bruce. You know, a mother's
love for her child can only take so much. LOL

John O' made fun of the way Mike directs the orchestra.

And Mike's dad told a very funny story about Mike's
fear of heights.

Susan told about how Mike was a stickler for table manners
and how they were on vacation last year and just all of the
sudden, Mike let out a huge burp and Ally, their daughter,
dropped her fork in the restaurant and said, "NO YOU DIDN'T!"

Barry, Bruce's brother, told a funny story of something that
happened to them when they were
teenagers.

Bryan, Bruce's oldest brother, told about how they used to
try and get rid of Bruce and one time they stuffed him in an
old tire and rolled him down a hill....real brotherly love there, huh?

Bruce and Mike were really good sports and I think the highlight of their morning was being able to finally remove those ridiculous tiaras.
